Lima is a sprawling metropolis on the sea. As a tourist there are two important districts – Barranco and Miraflores. The city is perched above the sea with a steep cliff face leading down to generally stoney beaches. We were there in April and found lots of thick mist in the mornings. Lima does not feel like any other place in Peru that we visited – in fact it feels a little like a European city. Both Barranco and Miraflores are lively at night with lots of pubs and bars and there are plenty of great restaurants.
A surprising treat in the city is the Parque de la Reserva – a park full of fountains which is frequented by locals. Definitely worth a visit.
We were lucky to have some friends in Lima who we met earlier in our trip so we spend a lot of time hanging out and soaking up the atmosphere.
